Objetivos

In this project the classes (from PORtugal and from iTALy - that's why the name "POR.TAL") will collaborate along all the school year to learn and use English together.
Students will communicate in English and learn about their penfriends’ lifestyles by exchanging letters and cards and making video projects and presentations about their school, interests, towns etc.
They will both use traditional mail and online tools to share information safely online.
They also will share some activities related to some common topics of their curriculum.

The aims of this project are:
- to give students the opportunity to practise their English and improve their language skills with students from another European country;
- to exchange ideas and experience the joy of cooperative activities;
- to show students that we are part of one European community and to find new friends;
- to increase students’ motivation for studying English and give them real opportunities to communicate;
- to use Internet and modern technologies while learning English.

Ações a Desenvolver

The students will be involved in the activities during the whole school year.

SEPTEMBER – DECEMBER
- Who I am and what I like - The students introduce themselves through a video presentation and a letters exchange (each student will have a penfriend): each student gives information about himself/herself and creates a badge with adjectives that describes his/her personality
- My school / my town - The students make some video presentations to introduce the school and the town where they study and live
- Halloween - The students create bookmarks with pictures related to Halloween and send them by snail mail; afterwards they take photos with the bookmark they received together with their favourite book, writing a small paragraph explaining why that is his/her favourite book
- Our picture dictionaries - The students draw pictures about the topic “jobs” and upload them on a Padlet page on Twinspace (other students label them), then the pictures will be collected in an e-book to create an online picture dictionary
- Christmas - The students share videos with them singing Christmas songs, they make Christmas cards and they send them by snail mail including some small gifts


JANUARY - MARCH
- St. Valentine’s day - The students make surprise crafts and send them by snail mail to the partner school
- Our on-line exercises - The students create some on-line exercises about the topic “food” and share them on Twinspace


APRIL – JUNE
- Our activities - The students act out several actions and make a video describing them using the Present Continuous tense, then they share it on Twinspace
- My day / My week - Each student creates an avatar and writes about his / her daily routine and hobbies, then they write and send their second letter to their penfriends talking about their family and their daily routine


ALONG THE YEAR: The students share their favourite pop songs in English with their friends and use them as a warm-up before the English lessons


AT THE END OF THE YEAR: Audio/video conferencing session with the members

We expect a strong collaboration between the teachers and a very high motivation and enthusiasm from our students. We aim to create a strong friendship between the classes, that will work together very often during the whole school year. They will use English to know each other getting to know different cultures and they will use and develop their digital, linguistic and social skills. They will share some activities to learn together some common topics and increase their awareness of the importance of English as a mean of communication through the world.
